Democrats offer reward for return of computers

10/19/2004

A week after a thief broke into Lucas County Democratic Headquarters, party officials are offering a $1,000 reward for each of three computers that were taken - no questions asked.

Originally, the Democrats offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the break-in at the one-story building at 1817 Madison Ave., which police believe occurred sometime between 11 p.m. Oct. 11 and 7 a.m. Oct. 12. Taken were three computers that contained sensitive Democratic campaign information for local, state, and national campaigns.

Police said it's unclear whether the break-in was politically motivated. The computers were valued at about $5,000.

With the election now just two weeks away, local Democrats are interested in retrieving the computers and the data they hold. Anyone with information is asked to call Jerry Chabler, party spokesman, at 419-246-9301.
