A central Toledo man was arraigned yesterday on drug and weapons charges after police said he fired five shots from inside a bedroom at his home, while officers were at the front door preparing to search the residence.

Terrence Smith, 28, of 1135 Pinewood Ave., was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

When police tried to breach the front door about 11 p.m. Tuesday, five shots were fired from a bedroom. Officers entered the house and found the suspect, who was leaving a bedroom off the main living room area on the first floor. He was arrested without incident.

Police said the shots were fired from the bedroom through the walls and window. Police did not return fire.

Officers seized about $12,000 worth of suspected crack cocaine; $5,600 in suspected powder cocaine, about $100 in suspected marijuana, a 45-caliber handgun the suspect allegedly fired, spent shell casings, and cash.
