Authorities have identified a central Toledo man as the victim of a fatal hit-skip accident.

Rodney Wilson, 41, who police said lived in the New Cheney Flats apartments in UpTown, was killed in the Sunday morning accident at the intersection of the Greenbelt Parkway and Lagrange Street.

He was pulling a brown wagon with two duffle bags containing stuffed animals, a green felt hat, and a glass vase. He was walking diagonally across the intersection about 3 a.m., police said.

Witnesses told police he stopped in the middle of the intersection to pick something up when a tan Ford pickup truck traveling southeast on Lagrange hit him.

The pickup, which may have had Michigan license plates, didn't stop. It continued through the intersection and turned north on Champlain Street, police said.

"Usually [drivers] stop after they hit somebody," traffic Sgt. Paul Kerschbaum said.

Mr. Wilson died of head injuries from the accident, said Dr. James Patrick, Lucas County coroner. Mr. Wilson was dead at the scene.

The intersection where the accident occurred is lit with street lights. Police do not know what Mr. Wilson was picking up in the road when he was struck.

Mr. Wilson's family could not be reached for comment.
