FREMONT - Fremont Middle School was evacuated Tuesday after someone set fire to a toilet-paper dispenser in a second-floor men's rest room, authorities said.

All the school's students and staff were evacuated, which led to the cancellation of the last class period of the day.

A police officer on duty in the school doused the flames with a fire extinguisher shortly after 2 p.m. The fire partially melted the plastic dispenser and caused smoke damage to the ceiling and the hallway. No damage estimate was available yesterday, fire officials said.

Police and school officials were still investigating the incident yesterday.
