Tips sought on north-side slaying

Toledo police are seeking information through the Crime Stopper program about the murder of a 74-year-old North Toledo man whose body was found this week inside his Buffalo Street apartment.

Jessie Coleman, of 632 Buffalo, died of sharp-force injury to his neck, which severed blood vessels on the right side of his neck. He also suffered blunt-force injury to his scalp, according to the Lucas County coroner's office.

Mr. Coleman's daughter found her father's body Monday morning when she went to check on him after she couldn't reach him by telephone twice during the weekend.

The front door was ajar, she told police. Her father was on his back on the living room floor, his face and head covered with blood, police said.

The motive for his slaying is unknown. There were no signs of forced entry to the apartment.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call the Crime Stopper program. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
