FOSTORIA - Three students at Fostoria Middle School have been charged with violating Ohio's safe school law after allegedly passing a note that contained a threat involving a former student, Superintendent Cynthia Lemmerman said yesterday.

The district notified police after a teacher at the school became aware of the note Wednesday, Ms. Lemmerman said.

The note contained a threat against the former student's unborn child, but the superintendent said authorities have been unable to determine if the girl is pregnant.

Ms. Lemmerman said the note did not involve anyone currently associated with the district, but that school officials summoned police because the message had been circulated in the building. "We take all threats seriously," she said.

The incident did not disrupt classes at the school.
