Oregon officer to be cited in wreck of police cruiser

3/25/2005

The Oregon police officer who lost control of his patrol car and struck two utility poles Tuesday will be cited for failure to maintain reasonable control of the vehicle, said Lt. Hank Everitt of the Oregon Police Department, who conducted an investigation after the accident.

Ryan Spangler, 23, a probationary officer with the department for almost a year, may be subject to disciplinary action after he admitted to slightly exceeding the speed limit and said he may have hit a pothole as he failed to round a curve on Otter Creek at Bay Shore roads, Lieutenant Everitt said.

The cruiser struck one pole before careening across the road and hitting the other pole, which totaled the cruiser that Lieutenant Everitt said had an estimated value of $6,000.
