GREEN SPRINGS, Ohio - Three residents of the St. Francis Health Care Centre's nursing facility were sent to area hospitals last night to be checked after an air conditioning unit began smoking in one of the patients' rooms, care center personnel said.

Two were sent to Bellevue Hospital, Bellevue, Ohio, and one to Memorial Hospital, Fremont, as a precaution, the personnel said.

The air conditioning unit began smoking about 10:40 p.m. in a second-floor room of the 150-bed facility. Green Springs firefighters were at the scene checking on the air conditioner. There was no fire.
