Human bones discovered at former children's home

An excavation crew yesterday unearthed human skeletal remains while digging a foundation at an upscale housing development on the banks of the Maumee River in Maumee, police said.

Discovered were a skull and bones from an torso, police said. The discovery was made about 2:30 p.m. at the construction site at 2500 River Rd., the former site of the Miami Children's Home. Dr. James Patrick, Lucas County coroner, said his office will evaluate the remains today.

The subdivision, called Riverside Commons, is being developed by CSB Investors. Each unit will cost $350,000 to $750,000.
