FIRE DESTROYS HOME IN SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP

An early morning fire yesterday destroyed a singlestory brick home at 3640 McCord Rd. in Sylvania Township. Tom Eisel, the township s deputy fi re chief, said the damage was estimated at about $100,000.

The blaze was reported just before 6 a.m., the chief said, and firefighters found black smoke and fl ames shooting through the roof at the rear of the structure when they arrived. He said the name of the home s owner was not known but he was told that a man who had been living there had been moved to an assisted-care facility two weeks ago and the man s wife had then moved elsewhere. There were no injuries. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
