Toledoan says he was shot at local night spot

A near south end man was shot in the stomach yesterday, reportedly at a downtown Toledo night spot, authorities said.

Jesus Rivera, 25, was in critical condition last night in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Police said an initial interview with the victim indicated the shooting occurred about 2 a.m. at the Emporium, 25 South Huron St., although no shootings were reported to police at the establishment or in that area.

However, police said there was a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Sixth Street in East Toledo, where a suspect in the shooting lives. No arrest has been made. Police were sent to 235 Garland Ave. early yesterday morning, where they found Mr. Rivera bleeding. His mother, Julie Vallejo, gave police the name of a suspect.

The incident remains under investigation.
