Man indicted 2nd time on rape charges

5/24/2005

A Toledo man who was accused of molesting a young boy was indicted yesterday by a Lucas County grand jury for the same offenses for which charges originally were dropped.

Rondle Carroll, 72, of 5867 Live Oak Drive, was indicted on four counts of rape and three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Prosecutors presented the case again to the grand jury because Judge James Bates dismissed it on April 12 when the case was scheduled for trial. Prosecutors said they were not ready to proceed with the case due to the unavailability of witnesses, and Judge Bates dropped the charges.

The victim, who is now 15, told authorities that he was assaulted when he was 10 years old and the abuse continued until 2003.

The victim came forward with the accusations after media reports surfaced that three boys, ages 12, 13, and 14, had accused Mr. Carroll of luring them into his home to watch a pornographic movie in April, 2004.

However, Mr. Carroll was found not guilty Nov. 3 of three counts of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.
