MILAN, Ohio A Castalia, Ohio, man has been charged with causing a May 25 crash on an Erie County road that killed a passenger in his pickup, authorities said.

The Ohio Highway Patrol charged Joseph Moffitt, 22, with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and single counts of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol and driving under suspension.

He was being held yesterday in the Erie County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond for the collision that killed Steven B. Hall, Jr., 21, of Vickery, Ohio.

In addition, the Erie County Sheriff s Office has charged Mr. Moffitt with tampering with evidence and obstructing official business.

Initially, authorities were unsure whether Mr. Moffitt or Mr. Hall was driving the pickup when it collided with a car driven by Clyde R. Yost, 67, of Sandusky, on Mason Road in Groton Township.

Authorities allege that Mr. Moffitt altered or destroyed evidence and made misleading or false statements about the crash.

According to the sheriff s office and the highway patrol, Mr. Moffitt was eastbound on Mason and lost control of the pickup while trying to pass Mr. Yost s car. Both vehicles collided as they drove into a ditch on the right side of the road. Neither Mr. Moffitt nor Mr. Yost was seriously hurt.
