N.J. fugitive captured in S. Toledo

6/25/2005

A New Jersey man who's been a fugitive for about a year since being convicted on a drug charge in the Garden State but before he was sentenced was apprehended yesterday in South Toledo.

Bobby Watson, 32, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine in 2004. He did not return to court to be sentenced in June, 2004, and had been wanted by authorities since.

In August of last year, members of the U.S. Marshals Service had leads indicating that Watson was in the Toledo area. He was located, but after a car chase with authorities, Watson was able to jump from his car and escape on foot.

Yesterday, the Marshals Service said they had new information that led them to an apartment complex at 1524 Norwich St.

Watson tried to jump from a second-story window, but changed his mind when he saw officers on the ground below him.

He was being held in the Lucas County Jail pending extradition to New Jersey.
