B.G. man, 73, held on $1M bond for gun, resisting arrest charges

A 73-year-old rural Bowling Green man is being held in lieu of $1 million bond in the Lucas County jail after he was arrested for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest, police said.

Emil Edward Vavrik was arrested at the offices of Weber and Sterling LLC on Indian Wood Circle in Maumee Thursday morning, where he went to see Stephen Keller, an attorney.

Mr. Keller told police that he saw a bulge in Mr. Vavrik s briefcase and that Mr. Vavrik threatened to kill him in December and in March.

Mr. Vavrik also threatened Wood County Probate Judge David Woessner in March, Mr. Keller said.

Police found a handgun in the briefcase.

Mr. Keller told police that Mr. Vavrik was frustrated about how long it was taking to process the estate of his mother, who died in 2003.

Mr. Vavrik and his sister were co-executors of her estate.

On Feb. 16, Judge Woessner ordered that Mr. Keller s firm be paid $22,474.75 from Mr. Vavrik s share of the estate and his mother s trust.

Mr. Keller had stated in an earlier filing that Mr. Vavrik objected to paying the fees.

After Thursday s incident in Maumee, court security officers requested that Bowling Green police provide extra surveillance at Judge Woessner s home in case Mr. Vavrik posted bond and was released from jail.
