Ex-BGSU student pleads not guilty to assault

BOWLING GREEN A former Bowling Green State University student charged with assaulting her roommate with a hot clothes iron pleaded not guilty yesterday to felonious assault in Wood County Common Pleas Court.

Sharronda Barkley, 18, of Twinsburg, Ohio, was allowed to remain free on her own recognizance but is to stay off the BGSU campus and have no contact with her former roommate, Heather Haase.

A pretrial hearing was set for Nov. 18 before Judge Reeve Kelsey.

Ms. Barkley is accused of attacking Ms. Haase, 18, with an iron Aug. 23. Ms. Haase received a skull fracture and a burn on her arm.

According to police reports, Ms. Barkley accused her roommate of having a hidden camera in their dorm room.

Alan Konop, Ms. Barkley s lawyer, said his client is not working or going to school right now.

She s being treated for some very serious mental health issues, he said.
