Wayne woman reports needle in her pop bottle

10/6/2005

WAYNE, Ohio Wood County sheriff s deputies are investigating an incident in which a woman said she found a needle in a plastic safety cap inside a bottle of Pepsi she was drinking.

Elene Pollard, 76, of Wayne told deputies she was sipping from a 24-ounce bottle of Pepsi about 10:11 a.m. Tuesday and decided to pour the pop into a mug. As she was pouring it, the needle with the safety cap came out of the bottle, she said.

She called her attorney, who advised her to call the sheriff s office.

Chief Deputy Eric Reynolds did not want to speculate on what might have happened and said he did not know where she had bought the Pepsi.

In the sheriff s report, Mrs. Pollard said she was the only one home at the time and said neither she or her husband had any reason to keep needles in their home.

Chief Deputy Reynolds said a copy of the report would be sent to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
