FOSTORIA - Two Fostoria police officers have been OK'd to return to work after an investigation of their use of force in a shooting this month outside a Fostoria drug store.

As of Monday, Officers Jeff Huffman and Stan Sayre have been taken off administrative leave and will return to work after they recover from injuries, the Fostoria Police Department announced yesterday.

The officers were involved in a shooting Oct. 2 in the parking lot of the Pharm Drug Discount Store, 895 North Countyline St.

At the time, Kenneth W. Smith, who was wanted by police, was in a car in the store's parking lot. While the officers questioned the occupants, Smith tried to drive away with an officer partially inside. "Multiple shots" were fired at the driver, who was treated in Toledo Hospital.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation looked into the incident, and after reviewing the results of the investigation, Wood County Prosecutor Raymond Fischer determined the case didn't need more consideration.
