Hunter finds skeletal remains along Lake Erie at Anchor Pointe Marina

11/5/2005

Human skeletal remains were found by a hunter yesterday along Lake Erie in Jerusalem Township, according to Lucas County sheriff's deputies.

The remains, which include a jaw bone with teeth and fillings, were found about 11 a.m. near Anchor Pointe Marina, sheriff's Lt. Don Atkinson said.

Authorities could not tell the sex or age of the remains. Clothing, including what looked like a pair of pants, also was found.

The hunter saw the jaw bone and picked it up. He then went to the sheriff's substation in the township to report the find.

Lieutenant Atkinson speculated the remains washed ashore. He said authorities are checking missing persons reports and looking for anyone missing in a boating accident.

The Lucas County coroner's staff is scheduled to examine the remains today.
