Evidence of two homemade bottle bombs was discovered yesterday in the parking lot of Perrysburg s Bicentennial Park.
One blew up on the pavement, apparently either Friday night or yesterday morning.
The other was blown apart by a shotgun blast fired into it by Perrysburg police.
The two devices were discovered about 10:15 a.m. by a Perrysburg police officer on routine patrol.
Firefighters sprayed the live bomb over to the grass with a fire hose so they could destroy it on a soft surface and avoid having shotgun pellets ricochet. Police officers then blew it up with a shotgun, Police Sgt. J.D. Justus said.
The sergeant said he believes the bombs were made by one or more youths.
He said people should take caution when they see a two-liter bottle that has appeared to have expanded well beyond its normal size.
