15 indicted on charges linked to disturbance

Fifteen people were indicted yesterday by a Lucas County grand jury on felony charges in connection with rioting that occurred after a planned neo-Nazi rally was canceled last month in North Toledo.

Kyle R. Shaffer, 18, was indicted on one count each of felonious assault, burglary, and aggravated riot. He was among those identified by police through videos obtained from businesses that were looted during the Oct. 15 riot.

In addition, the Lucas County prosecutor's office yesterday asked a juvenile court judge to certify a 17-year-old male to stand trial as an adult on an assault charge for allegedly throwing "items" at a Toledo police officer. The teenager, who has an extensive criminal record, was also charged with breaking into Jim & Lou's bar, 3032 Mulberry St.

The bar was later set on fire by rioters, who also looted a 7-Eleven store at 3151 Lagrange St. and Our Food Mart, 454 East Streicher St.

More than 120 people, including 42 juveniles were arrested in connection with the rioting.

Others who were indicted and their charges include Lamarr Harper, 18, felonious assault and aggravated riot; Norbert McBride, 19, vandalism and aggravated riot; Courtney Nunn, 18, felonious assault and aggravated riot; Tony Johnson, 27, burglary and aggravated riot, and Floyd Young, 18, robbery and aggravated riot.

Indicted on one count each of aggravated riot were Donel Summers, 25; Francisco Sarabia, 22; Victor Cooper, 27; Rodney Lee, Jr., 19; Reuben Clark, 19; Precious Smith-Hicks, 26; Michael Joyce, 23, and Quinton Kennie, 18.

James Limes, Jr., 20, was indicted on one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
