Blaze damages Vinton Street garage

A garage with four vehicles inside caught fire last night, causing $30,000 damage, authorities said.

About 9:40 p.m., the back of the unattached garage behind 907 Vinton St. caught fire and spread about midway into the structure, Battalion Fire Chief Mark Kline said.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to extinguish the fire, which has been ruled suspicious, Chief Kline said.

There were three cars and one pickup inside the garage, and at least two of the vehicles were severely damaged, Chief Kline said.

The cars inside were not owned by the renters and are believed to belong to the home's owner, Dan Garcia.

The residents inside the home on Vinton were evacuated as a precaution, but they were never in danger because the home is about 30 feet away from the garage, Chief Kline said.
