Crews battle persistent fire at alfalfa facility

Firefighters battled a small but stubborn blaze yesterday at a North Toledo alfalfa storage and distribution facility that caused about $10,000 damage.

Fire crews were at Alfa Green Supreme, 2404 North Summit St., for more than three hours after arriving about 11 a.m. Product in the dust collection system was smoldering in several locations inside the collector, Battalion Fire Chief Mark Klein said.

Firefighters extinguished the smoldering areas. Chief Klein said some product was lost and some was off-loaded to ensure there were no additional problems. The building is owned by Ohio Blenders Inc.
