Defiance schools hit by 8th bomb threat

2/23/2006

DEFIANCE - A bomb threat at Defiance Junior High School yesterday was the eighth such threat at the city's junior high or high school this school year, and Police Chief Norm Walker said it is the worst year for such threats he has seen in his more than 28 years in the police department.

Four students - three from the high school and one from the junior high - have been found guilty of felony charges in connection with four of the incidents. The other four threats remain under investigation.

Yesterday, police were called just before 12:45 p.m. about a threat written on the stall door of a third-floor girls restroom. The threat said a bomb would go off during the sixth period.

The junior high and elementary buildings were evacuated. Police found nothing suspicious.
