Oak Harbor man faces charges over truck theft

OAK HARBOR, Ohio An Oak Harbor man who led Ottawa County authorities on a chase yesterday was charged with stealing a pickup truck from Gordon Lumber Co. and driving through the company s gate.

Steven Damron, 21, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, vandalism, receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence, reckless operation, and no seat belt.

Bond was set in Ottawa County Municipal Court at $45,000.

Oak Harbor police were called to Gordon Lumber on South Locust Street shortly after 3 a.m. after someone noticed the gate was lying in the middle of the street. Port Clinton police spotted the stolen truck on State Rt. 53 and chased it along with Ottawa County sheriff s deputies and Carroll Township police.

The chase ended when Mr. Damron lost control of the truck along North Muddy Creek Road. He was arrested after a short foot chase, authorities said.
