A Perrysburg man was hurt seriously when a Michigan man allegedly hit him and his head hit the pavement during an incident in West Toledo.

Matthew Salts, 32, was in critical condition yesterday in Toledo Hospital with a head injury, authorities said.

Bryan Davis, 28, of Erie, Mich., was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond after arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court on a felonious assault charge.

The incident occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday at 3862 Lockwood Ave. Mr. Salts confronted Mr. Davis, and Mr. Davis hit him in the face with his fist, court records indicate.

A witness told police Mr. Davis had an earlier altercation with another man at the residence. Mr. Salts didn't like Mr. Davis picking on a much smaller person and confronted him. When Mr. Salts asked Mr. Davis why he doesn't pick on someone his own size, Mr. Davis punched him. The witness told police Mr. Salts had his hands in his pockets.

Mr. Salts fell backward and hit his head on the paved driveway. Several people identified Mr. Davis, who admitted striking the victim, according to the court records. Mr. Davis fled after the incident but was arrested later in the day, police said.
