Pipe bomb discovered near Fort Meigs site

A pipe bomb was found yesterday in a Perrysburg neighborhood, a day after residents reported loud explosions in the area, authorities said.

About 6:15 p.m. yesterday, a man reported a pipe bomb in the 13000 block of Otusso Drive, south of the Fort Meigs State Memorial. When police arrived, they found a 5 to 6-inch cylinder wrapped in black electrical tape with a 4-inch green wick, Perrysburg police Sgt. J.D. Justus said.

Police and fire crews cordoned off a one-block area and called Toledo s bomb squad, which arrived about 7 p.m. and placed the bomb in its containment truck, Sergeant Justus said.

On Friday night, residents in the same neighborhood reported six to seven loud explosions, but police found nothing when they investigated those calls.

It was not known if yesterday s pipe bomb was related to those incidents, the sergeant said.
