3/17/2006

BLUFFTON, Ohio A Bluffton police officer has been appointed to fill the vacant chief s position.

Sgt. Rick Skilliter will be paid $50,000 under a contract approved by Village Council this week. He has been with the department since 1989 and replaces Reid Foust, who resigned last July.

Sergeant Skilliter, who had been serving as interim chief, also had been chief of Bluffton s emergency medical service but resigned that post. Jan Basinger is now acting EMS chief, but the mayor hopes to name a permanent replacement soon.
