Woman, daughter flee as fire damages duplex

Fire last night caused $15,000 damage to the upper floor of a two-story East Toledo duplex belonging to a woman and her 4-year-old child, authorities said.

The fire at 807 Neveda St., reported about 7:45 p.m., began in a rear bedroom belonging to both the woman and her child. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze before it reached the lower unit, which sustained minor water damage.

The mother and her child as well as several friends of the mother escaped the blaze without injury.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
