Fire damages Perrysburg Township house

5/9/2006

Fire last night caused extensive damage to a Perrysburg Township home, but left its two occupants unscathed, authorities said.

The two-story, wood frame house at 12459 Jefferson St. caught fire about 8:20 p.m. A husband and wife who were home at the time escaped without injury.

The fire started in a utility room at the rear of the home and spread to an adjacent kitchen before firefighters had it under control, township Deputy Fire Chief Tom Brice said.

The story above the two rooms also had fire and smoke damage, Chief Brice added, though a damage estimate was not available last night.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Chief Brice said it did not appear suspicious.
