Explosive device goes off at grain elevator facility

5/16/2006

Three grain elevator employees escaped injury yesterday when a homemade explosive device went off at the facility in the 1800 block of Water Street, authorities said.

The explosion did not ignite the grain dust, which could have resulted in a larger explosion and a fire, police said.

The Hansen-Mueller Co. employees reported the incident at 6:30 a.m., shortly after what police called a homemade Draino bomb exploded.

Officers found remnants of the device, which had been placed through a hole in the facility s outside wall.
