South Toledo blaze leaves 5 homeless

A fire last night at a South Toledo home caused $25,000 damage and displaced five people, authorities said.

Firefighters were called to 1245 Hamilton St. shortly before 8:30 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the upper level of the 1 -story home, Battalion Fire Chief Eric Renzhofer said. The cause of the blaze, which started in an upstairs bedroom in the rear of the house, was undetermined last night and an investigator was called, the chief said.

Two adults and three children were being assisted last night by the Greater Toledo Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.

According to Lucas County auditor s records, the home is owned by Serina A. Garman.
