FREMONT A Fremont man who fought police while refusing to leave his burning house appeared in Fremont Municipal Court yesterday on charges of assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Justin Beck, 41, was ordered held on a $5,500 bond.

The fire started Sunday afternoon in a camper that was parked behind the house he was renovating. It spread to a garage and then to the house before it was extinguished.

Mr. Beck was on the second floor, tossing water onto the blaze, when he refused to leave. Three officers subdued him after administering an electric shock.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, but fire crews estimated the loss of the camper and garage at $25,000.
