Fire at Norwalk factory inflicts heavy damage

6/30/2006

NORWALK, Ohio A fire that broke out early yesterday morning at Durable Corp. in this Huron County city caused at least $900,000 in damages, Norwalk Fire Chief Bob Bores said.

He said flames were above the roof when the department responded just before 1 a.m. He said the cause was most likely electrical, but is listed as undetermined.

No one was injured, but two families in nearby homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure because of the smoke.

Durable Corp. is a manufacturing factory, and the fire caused damage to one building. But because it was contained to that one building, workers are expected to start back next week, the chief said.

The Bellevue Fire Department, Huron River Joint Fire District, and the Townsend and Milan township fire departments assisted at the scene.
