Northwood home burns; loss put at $100,000

7/4/2006

The loss has been estimated at $100,000 after a home in Northwood was destroyed by fire late Sunday night, Northwood Fire Chief Tom Pack said.

No one was hurt in the blaze, which was reported just after 11 p.m. at 2437 Oregon Rd., Chief Pack said.

Homeowner John Benson and a friend were asleep in the living room, heard popping noises, and were able to flee the house, the fire chief said.

He said he called the Rossford Fire Department for assistance after seeing that the garage and a breezeway were engulfed in flames, along with the roof of the two-story home.

The fire was extinguished in about two hours.

While he does not suspect arson, Chief Pack said department officials have not determined the cause of the fire. It remains under investigation.
