7/4/2006

Toledo firefighters were busy yesterday with two separate morning blazes that caused about $19,000 damage to each of two houses.

Arson is believed to be the cause of a fire about 5:30 a.m. at a vacant, two-story house at 1013 Harding Drive. Firefighters didn t know exactly where the blaze originated. The house, owned by Kurt Zimmerman, was ordered razed, authorities said.

It was the second time since October that the house has been burned in an arson fire.

The other fire began about two hours earlier at a two-story house at 1209 Woodstock Ave. The cause of the blaze, which started near the door on the front porch, was suspected arson.

Authorities said it was the second time the house, owned by Rickey Boyd, has been set on fire within the last year. It was unknown if it was occupied at the time of the blaze, which was brought under control in about 10 minutes.
