Carryouts, bars warned over sales to minors

PORT CLINTON - The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says no more warnings will be issued to stores and bars that sell alcohol to minors.

Future violators will be hit with citations and penalties.

The sheriff's office has been issuing warnings as part of a program to begin cracking down on underage sales.

Last week, an 18-year-old man working for the sheriff's office went into 14 carryouts and other establishments and was able to purchase alcoholic beverages at five of them.

Two minors were cited for underage consumption, and one adult was charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor, the sheriff's office said.
