A man was shot in the leg last night and drove about a mile to a relative s home in central Toledo for help, authorities said.

Albert Smiley, 24, who is from Alabama and is staying in Toledo with relatives, was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center where he was in serious condition last night, a hospital spokesman said.

Mr. Smiley, who police said was being uncooperative, was shot in the right thigh in the 2300 block of Fulton Street and then drove to a relative s home at 950 Islington St. where he was staying, police said.

Relatives called authorities who arrived about 8:15 p.m. and found Mr. Smiley on the home s front porch. Police said they believe Mr. Smiley knew the gunman, but he told them that a man shot him for no reason.
