One unit of an East Toledo duplex was charred beyond repair and its occupant hospitalized during a fire yesterday afternoon, authorities said.
The two-story, wood-frame duplex at 565 Howland Ave. erupted in flames about 4:15 p.m. When firefighters arrived, Angela Stockman, 45, of that address, was waiting outside; she was taken to St. Charles Hospital for possible smoke inhalation, fire officials said.
The duplex, valued at $25,000, was deemed a total loss, fire officials said. The second unit of the duplex, 567 Howland, sustained some smoke damage; a damage estimate was not available.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
