Driver who hit restaurant is arraigned

7/25/2006

The driver arrested after his car smashed into a Rossford Denny's restaurant was arraigned in Perrysburg Municipal Court yesterday on felony charges of aggravated vehicular assault and tampering with evidence.

Joshua Dorfmeyer, 24, is being held in the Wood County jail in lieu of $40,000 bond and is to appear in court again Aug. 1.

The accident early Sunday sent Karen Truesdale, 63, of Cridersville, Ohio, to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in serious condition, and injured Vivian Hines, 68, of Elida, Ohio, and Barb Markward, 62, of Lima.

Mr. Dorfmeyer told police his foot was caught under a pedal. His blood-alcohol level tested at more than twice the legal limit to be operating a motor vehicle in Ohio, and witnesses said he had swallowed the contents of a marijuana pipe and threw the pipe across the street, police said.
