Mom, daughter escape fire in Springfield Township

7/26/2006

Fire yesterday destroyed a mobile home in Springfield Township, but firefighters credited a smoke detector with alerting the homeowner and her daughter, who escaped unhurt.

No cause has been determined for the fire that began about 1:20 a.m. at 289 West Woodside Terrace, said Dave Bennett, captain of fire prevention for the township.

Cindy Greulich and her 10-year-old daughter fled the 1972 mobile home; Mrs. Greulich s husband, Ron, was at work, and the couple s son was staying with relatives when the fire occurred, the captain said. No damage estimate was available.

Mrs. Greulich and her daughter had fallen asleep while watching a movie, but the mother was awakened by the smoke detector s alarm. She saw the flames down a hallway, and she and her daughter escaped, Captain Bennett said.
