Toledoan critically hurt in assault outside home

A central Toledo man was hurt seriously when he was punched on the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground outside his apartment building.

Walter Sneider, 59, of 240 21st St., was in critical condition yesterday in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center after the assault about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

James Warren, 44, of 105 17th St., was charged with felonious assault and was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond after arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court.

Police were told the suspect entered the apartment building, but did not have a key to activate the elevator. He approached a woman who was on the phone and said he d beat her if she was calling police. He then stormed out of the building.

Mr. Sneider was standing outside. The suspect said something to him. When Mr. Sneider turned, the suspect assaulted him, police said.
