Man dies after assault outside his apartment

A central Toledo man died yesterday, two days after he was assaulted outside his apartment building, authorities said.

Walter Sneider, 59, of 240 21st St., was pronounced dead at 2:25 p.m. in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Mr. Sneider was assaulted about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday after a man entered his apartment building, threatened a woman, and stormed outside where Mr. Sneider was standing. The suspect said something to him, Mr. Sneider turned, and he was punched in the face and fell, hitting his head on the ground.

James Warren, 44, of 105 17th St., was charged with felonious assault and is being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond.

Detectives are expected to upgrade the charges against Mr. Warren.
