An Old West End man was stabbed in the chest yesterday during an assault across from his home, police said.

Doug Miller, 27, was in critical condition in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, authorities said.

Police were sent to Mr. Miller s home, 2339 Robinwood Ave., about 2 a.m. and found him on his back on the porch.

Two people were with Mr. Miller, police said. One said he and Mr. Miller pulled up in front of the residence and words were exchanged between Mr. Miller and the suspect, who lives across the street and was sitting on his own porch, police said.

Mr. Miller walked across the street, the argument continued in the driveway on the side of the house, and the suspect lunged at Mr. Miller with a silver shank, police said. No one was arrested, police said.
