Monroe sheriff to use grant for school security

MONROE The Monroe County Sheriff s Office will use a $66,070 federal grant it received to provide four local school districts with improved security equipment.

Airport Community Schools, Dundee Community Schools, Ida Public Schools, and Jefferson Schools will use the money to buy cameras and high-security exterior door locks.

The grant will cover 50 percent of the cost.

The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, or COPS, gave $14.8 million in grants last week to 174 law enforcement agencies to enhance school safety in 38 states. The grants were awarded under the COPS Secure Our Schools program.
