Task force arrests suspect after a tip

A man wanted for shooting into a North Toledo home where a child's birthday party was taking place was arrested yesterday after eluding authorities for more than a week.

Mychal R. Keahey, 21, with a last known address of 1224 North Huron St., Apt. D, was arrested without incident about 3:30 p.m. at the home of an acquaintance in the 1300 block of Yates Street by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and seven Toledo police officers, U.S. Deputy Marshal Rodney Hartzel said.

Mr. Keahey was being held in the Lucas County jail pending arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court.

Mr. Keahey is charged with three counts of felonious assault for shooting into 525 East Weber St. about 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23.

He shot Tamara Mills, 24, in the left thigh and wounded Myshiona Agnes, 12, when a bullet grazed her left shin. Both were treated at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He also is charged with attempting to shoot Myron Agnes.

Police said he got into a confrontation with an attendee of an 11-year-old boy's birthday party, left, and returned with a handgun, which he used to shoot into the home through a screen door from outside.

Mr. Keahey, who had about a dozen previous outstanding warrants, also is charged with improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation.

Authorities found Mr. Keahey after responding to a tip that he had returned to Toledo from out of town. After tracking him throughout the weekend, they set up surveillance in the Yates Street area yesterday morning, Mr. Hartzel said.

When Mr. Keahey saw police outside, he ran upstairs to hide, but ended up surrendering soon after, Mr. Hartzel said.
