Toledoan faces charge of vehicular homicide

A Toledo man was indicted yesterday by a Lucas County grand jury in the death last month of a 23-year-old man near the Weiler Homes on the city s east side.

Robbie Ray Chasteen, 36, of 5460 Clover Lane, was indicted on one count of aggravated vehicular homicide. A prosecutors request of an involuntary manslaughter charge was rejected by the grand jury.

The indictment stems from the Sept. 20 death of Calvin Johnson, of 618 Leach St., who reportedly attempted to cling to the defendant s pickup truck as he was driving away. The victim was thrown to the street when the pickup collided with a sport utility vehicle.

Mr. Chasteen was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
