A member of the Owens Community College golf team was hurt seriously last night during an apparent altercation in Rossford, authorities said.

Jay Dalgarn III, 19, of Pataskala, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, was admitted to the neurology intensive care unit at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. His condition was not available early today.

Rossford police were called to the 100 block of Maple Street about 7 p.m. on a report of an assault. Police believe there was some sort of confrontation in a parking lot, and Mr. Dalgarn was struck in the head with a golf club.

The suspect fled the scene, but was located later at a gas station on Miami Street in East Toledo, police said.

Shawn Bryan, 21, of 2322 Taft St., Oregon, who was charged with felonious assault and vandalism, injured himself by banging his head against the jail cell in the Rossford police station. He was treated at St. Charles Mercy Hospital before being booked into the Wood County jail.

Jim Welling, Owens' director of student enrichment and athletics, who is the golf coach, could not be reached for comment.
