MONROE - A Monroe County man was arraigned yesterday and charged with felonious assault stemming from an incident Friday night when he allegedly threatened his wife with a gun and then held authorities at bay for more than two hours.

Harry Pope Ellison, 50, of Monroe Township, was being held in the Monroe County Jail, Michigan State Police troopers said.

A woman called 911 at 7:20 p.m. Friday and said her husband had assaulted her in their home. When troopers from the Monroe State Police Post and Monroe County Sheriff deputies arrived, Mr. Ellison was alone in the residence and armed with a handgun and a shotgun, troopers said.

Mr. Ellison was taken into custody after he spoke to authorities by telephone and agreed to come out peacefully.
