An Oregon man was arrested yesterday after he pistol-whipped a postal worker delivering mail in East Toledo and stole his wallet and mailbag, police said.

Donald Schacht, 21, of 2740 Bleeker St. was being held in the Lucas County jail on a federal fugitive warrant. Investigation into the incident continues and details about the specific charges he could face were not available last night.

A masked man attacked postal worker Earl Golightley about 1:45 p.m. as he was delivering mail in the 700 block of Parker Avenue. The man struck Mr. Golightley in the back of the head with a silver handgun, took his mailbag and wallet, and fled north on Parker, police said.

A tip led police to the upstairs unit of 628 Parker Ave., where they found Mr. Schacht, the gun, mailbag, and Mr. Golightley s wallet, police said.
